Each week we enjoy bringing you up-to-date local and international news, along with the boats that we proudly represent from Absolute and Selene and a brokerage line-up that we sell here and around the world.

Hello Sailors!

Have had a noticeable number of inquiries and interest from baby boomers thinking about making the transition from sail to power. As they get older these owners talk about the desire for more ease in boating. They often sail only as a couple; they often have a big sailboat and find sailing a big boat on their own not as easy as it once was.

We at Yachtfinders Global have boats to suit all requirements, with ranges that complement each other - sail, power, displacement, semi-displacement, planing, monohulls, cats and superyachts - the only brokerage in NZ to do so.

Do you have the right boat for you? Have you made time to take more time off and go boating? Thinking of changing?

Come and chew the fat with us...

Keeping Nautical Expressions Alive

Fathom

Although a fathom is now a nautical unit of length equal to six feet, it was once defined by an act of Parliament as 'the length of a man's arms around the object of his affections.' The word derives from the old English Faethm, which means 'embracing arms.'

The Leatherman

Why not invest in a Leatherman? Arguably the best and most robust tool to have on a boat 'at the ready at all times'. From wire cutter and scissors to pliers and screw drivers plus a lot, lot more. Great for birthdays, special moments, or just because you have to have one.

These enhancements make the Selene 56 more efficient, spacious, and practical for long-range cruising.

Uncertain future for 40-year-old ship that brings the Chatham Islands its fuel

The operator of the main freight ship to the Chatham Islands, which failed to transport fuel to the islands last week due to a mechanical issue, says the ship is old and due for replacement.

The chairperson of Chatham Islands Shipping, Brodie Stevens, told Stuff that a new ship could be two years away, meaning the islands will continue to be serviced by the Southern Tiare, which is nearly 40 years old and prone to breaking down.

Joke of the Week

What did the captain say to the boat that was following his boat too closely?
"Hey, stop sailgating me!"

Recipe of the Week:

Puttanesca Pasta

  • 4 chicken fillet breasts
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices prosciutto
  • 2T olive oil

Preheat oven 200C. Cut lengthways through each breast to make a fillet, leaving 1cm each end. Fill each fillet with cheese & prosciutto. Heat oil in large frying pan over med/high heat. Add chicken breasts & cook for 1-2" until golden on each side. Transfer to baking tray & roast for 7-10 mins or until cooked through. Cover and set aside to rest for 5". Serve with whatever takes your fancy!
