Commercial fisherman caught trawling through protected marine reserve | |

A commercial fisherman caught out trawling an isolated marine reserve at the top of the South Island, and not submitting catch reports on time, has been fined. Kelly Gavin Scoles, 37, appeared via video link for sentencing in Kaikohe District Court on Friday, and was fined $15,000 as well as the value of his catch on the day he trawled the reserve, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) said.

Recipe of the Week: Hummus Chicken and Veges

- 4 (170 grams each) boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper, divided
- 3 medium zucchini
- 1 medium onion, roughly chopped
- 1 C hummus
- 1 T oil
- 1 t paprika, divided
- 1 lemon, quartered

Preheat oven to 225C. Spray 2 baking dishes with cooking spray. While oven heating, pat chicken dry. Season chicken with 1/4 t salt and 1/4 t pepper. Add chicken and hummus into small bowl and toss until well-coated. In glass baking pan, toss zucchini and onion with olive oil, 1/4 t salt and 1/4 t pepper until coated. Pat veges down until it makes an even layer in baking pan. Sprinkle with 1/2 t paprika. Bake for 15". In second glass baking dish, add chicken breast. Sprinkle with 1/2 t paprika. Place both baking dishes into the oven at 225 C. Bake veges about 15", and bake chicken about 20". Serve each chicken breast with veges and 1 Lemon Wedge | |
