Each week we enjoy bringing you up-to-date local and international news, along with the boats that we proudly represent from Absolute and Selene and a brokerage line-up that we sell here and around the world.
Hello Sailors!
When Yachtfinders Global was established 29 years ago, I made a conscious decision to prioritise integrity and client satisfaction above all else. From the beginning, our philosophy has been not to oversell boats or push clients into purchasing vessels that do not truly suit their needs. Over the years, we have seen many people buy boats that are either larger than necessary or simply not fit for their intended use. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we strive to understand each client’s unique requirements and lifestyle. For some, a boat serves as a floating holiday home rather than an ocean-crossing vessel.

I never grow tired of watching these birds do what they do best, catch fish. The amount of effort that goes into one single catch is immeasurable. From soaring through the air, to submerging themselves in a foreign underwater world to floating on the surface with an injured fish in its talons.

Opened in 2002, the Falkirk Wheel in Scotland is the world’s only rotating boat lift, connecting the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal across a 24-metre height difference. Works on the Archimedean principle, so perfectly balanced that a 22 kW motor (same as a kettle!) can rotate the wheel in just 5 minutes.

Keeping Nautical Expressions Afloat

The devil was the longest seam down the ship’s hull, and caulking was done with pay (tar). 'Paying the devil' was one of the most unpleasant tasks.

Ready for Auckland Summer – Lightly Used & Well Maintained
Purchased from Osprey in 2012 and fitted in the North Island, this boat has mostly cruised the Hauraki Gulf, averaging just 15–20 sea days and 50–60 outboard hours per year. It comes with a recently serviced trailer and a current WOF. The boat has been regularly serviced every 100 hours, including a full 10-year service where both fuel tanks were removed, pressure-tested, and minor leaks addressed. Three new batteries were installed last year.

Johnny Depth | |
Recipe of the Week:
Spaghetti Vongole - easy & great for blokes to impress
| |
- 1 kg cockles (other shell fish will do)
- 700g spaghetti (dried or 2 pkts fresh)
- 60g butter
- 4 T olive oil
- 6 fat cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 1 med-hot red chilli, finely chopped
- 200ml dry white wine
- small bunch flat-leaf parsley, roughly chopped
- zest of 1 lemon and juice
| | | |
1. Rinse clams in cold running water, and scrub. 2. Put spaghetti into large pan salted boiling water; cook for couple of minutes under the recommended time, until nearly done. 3. Meanwhile, put half butter & all olive oil in large pan over med heat; soften garlic & chilli. 4. Add drained clams; turn up heat. Pour in wine, cover & leave for couple of minutes until most opened. Discard any that are still closed. Add others to the sauce. 5. Drain spaghetti; add to pan along with remaining butter. Toss well; stir through the chopped parsley, lemon zest and juice, season to taste. Serves 8. Place red gingham table cloth on table with candle in Cianti bottle. Enjoy!!
