 So which sort of person buys a boat and what is important to most buyers? We're not in the habit of 'throwing darts' when selling boats. We always assess exactly what a buyer's looking for so we can best assist them in their search and purchase. As a result, a few interesting facts came to our attention this week - all taken from our data base:  

• 90% of buyers are over the age of 55. 
• Motoryachts are becoming a lot more popular.
• More buyers ask about access to flybridge - they don't want a ladder; they want stairs.
• Sedan (non-flybridge) models are becoming more popular.
• More buyers than ever ask about fuel-consumption and performance.
• Buyers do more internet 'homework' than ever prior to contacting a broker.

How one man survived 438 days adrift at sea

As José Salvador Alvarenga stepped gingerly from a patrol boat onto the dock in Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands, he looked nothing like the fisherman who had disappeared 14 months earlier.

A remote Pacific atoll that was once the solitary kingdom of a New Zealand sailor has secured a lasting future.

The remote atoll was transformed from a hermit's retreat into the first conservation sanctuary in the Cook Islands. Suwarrow, an isolated coral atoll about 1,300 kms north of Rarotonga, was officially declared a national park in 1978. The decision came just one year after its most famous resident, Tom Neale, ended his final stay on the island.

Recipe of the Week:  


Spaghetti Vongole  

(easy and great for blokes to impress guests)


Ingredients:
  • 1 kg cockles (other shellfish will do)
  • 700g spaghetti (dried or 2 pkts fresh)
  • 60g butter 
  • 4 T olive oil
  • 6 fat cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 med-hot red chilli, finely chopped
  • 200ml dry white wine
  • Small bunch flat-leaf parsley, roughly chopped
  • Zest of 1 lemon and juice

Method:
1. Rinse clams in cold running water, and scrub.
2. Put spaghetti into a large pan of salted boiling water; cook as per packet instructions recommended time, until nearly done.
3. Meanwhile, put half butter and all of olive oil in large pan over medium heat; soften garlic and chilli.
4. Add drained clams; turn up heat. Pour in wine, cover and leave for a couple of minutes until most opened. Discard any that are still closed. Add others to the sauce.
5. Drain spaghetti; add to pan along with remaining butter. Toss well; stir through the chopped parsley, lemon zest and juice, season to taste. Serves 8. Enjoy!
