How England Ended Up Stealing the Flag of Genoa

St George's Cross was adopted from the flag of Genoa, which originates as far back as 1096. On the origins of the flag the Duke of Kent earlier remarked: "The St. George's flag, a red cross on a white field, was adopted by England and the City of London in 1190 for their ships entering the Mediterranean to benefit from the protection of the Genoese fleet during the English Spanish wars. Genoa (a country at the time) remained neutral. The English Monarch at the time paid an annual tribute to the Doge of Genoa for this privilege". Doubtful they are still paying????

From 9 October 2026, everyone on board a recreational craft 6 metres and under must wear a lifejacket when the craft is underway.
The rule will apply across all of New Zealand to people using small recreational vessels such as jetskis, dinghies, sailboats, kayaks, paddleboards, and motorboats.

Pumpkin Soup - yummy

Ingredients:
- 1 kg pumpkin, peeled and diced
- 2 T red curry paste
- 300ml coconut cream
- 1/4 c coriander chopped
| | Method:
Saute pumpkin & red curry paste until it starts to catch on the saucepan. Add coconut cream to deglaze pan, top with enough water to level with pumpkin and bring to boil. Reduce heat, simmering until pumpkin becomes soft and mushy. Puree, season with salt & pepper and fold in chopped coriander. | | | |

Scientists mocked stories of giant waves - then an 84-foot monster was caught on instruments

For centuries, sailors reported enormous walls of water capable of crushing ships and disappearing without warning, but scientists dismissed the stories as maritime folklore. That changed in 1995, when instruments on a North Sea oil platform recorded a 25.6-meter rogue wave rising among waves less than half its size. The discovery forced researchers to reconsider ship safety, unexplained maritime disasters and the limits of traditional wave models. Even today, scientists still cannot reliably predict where the next rogue wave will appear.

She is a unique and very well-appointed vessel. The really nice saloon layout flows easily to the aft cockpit and deck.
Seadeck (in grey) gives a really nice feel to outdoor surfaces. Power systems are all exceeding expectations. The standard engines each have an integral charging system fitted. This, combined with 4 KW of Solar and Integral power units, negates the need for a generator. Sails are all of good quality. Rigging is recently replaced, and servicing is to an exceptionally high level. Strongly recommended for extended cruising!
